About Ontario

Ontario, CA is such a fantastic city! With its unique blend of history and modern attractions, it’s a special place in Southern California. It’s nestled in San Bernardino County, only about 35 miles away from Los Angeles, and is a key hub for goods movement thanks to the bustling Ontario International Airport, one of the top cargo traffic airports in the United States.

Did you know that the city was developed as the “Ontario Model Colony” in 1882 by Canadian engineer George Chaffey and his brothers? They named it after their home province of Ontario, Canada. That historical development has influenced much of the city’s growth, and it’s a significant part of its heritage.

Ontario offers so much in terms of culture and recreation, so it’s no surprise that it’s recognized for it! The Ontario Museum of History & Art and the Chaffey Community Museum of Art are prime destinations for anyone interested in the local history and arts. The former is housed in a historic building funded by the Works Progress Administration and offers a detailed look at the region’s past. Meanwhile, the latter showcases significant regional artists and California-style watercolor paintings.

For aviation enthusiasts and lovers of the great outdoors, the Planes of Fame Air Museum is a must-visit! It features over 150 airplanes, many of which are still in operation. This museum celebrates aviation history and is especially noted for its collection of World War II aircraft. And if you’re looking for outdoor activities, Ontario has an ideal climate with mild winters and warm summers, making it an ideal location for golfing at places like the Whispering Lakes Golf Course.

One more unique feature of Ontario is the Madonna of the Trail statue. It’s part of a series of statues across the United States commemorating the pioneering spirit of early American mothers.

Finally, we can’t forget about Ontario’s amazing community infrastructure and vibrant life. It has such a variety of services from public libraries and schools to parks and recreational programs. Ontario’s strategic location, cultural heritage, and community facilities collectively make it a notable place to reside in Southern California.
